Take a look at Cameron students and staff at work!
Cameron Intermediate School’s (CIS) PLC was born out of the combining of Parkview Elementary School and Cameron Middle School in the fall of 2015. Coming together from two different buildings was not our only obstacle, Parkview was designated a Focus School by DESE, a designation that CIS also inherited. Shortly after coming together, we created the mission, vision, and commitments that exemplify our PLC. A teaming culture has allowed us to engage students with high expectations and rigorous instruction in an environment that sparks learning.
Grade-level, content area, vertical, and leadership teams collaborate weekly for student success. During grade-level and content team meetings teachers share celebrations, reflect upon RtI data, share instructional strategies, and complete book studies. Vertical teams for math and ELA work together for 30 minutes every other week to ensure common content vocabulary and consistency of instruction to resolve any gaps in curriculum. Leadership team meets at least twice a month with a focus on shared leadership roles and collaborative communication. CIS teams maintain consistency by using common norms and agendas.
Response to Intervention (RtI) is used to ensure student proficiency of priority math and ELA standards. RtI time is a 30 minute class in all grade level daily schedules. That class time is rotated between math and ELA every three weeks. Using a data cycle model, teachers use scores from Acuity or unit pre-tests to create SMART goals for priority standards. Spreadsheets created on google docs articulate the pertinent information for each RtI session which is used in conversations about how to improve student learning and enhance learning for students who have already mastered the priority standard.
With our collaborative focus on student data and learning, academic success for our students has consistently improved since the inception of the PLC at Cameron Intermediate School.
