TROJAN INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL – Potosi R-III

Assessment Capable Learners at Trojan Intermediate!
The faculty and staff at Trojan Intermediate began the PLC journey like most other PLC schools…by collaboratively developing their mission, vision, and values/commitments through staff meetings in which they had detailed discussions about who they are and what they want to accomplish.  Their mission, “Teamwork Impacts Success”, is evident throughout the building as all staff members work along with students and parents to ensure success for all students.  Staff members take collective ownership in their weaknesses and accept their role in finding solutions by openly discussing areas of strengths and weaknesses. As individuals, grade levels, and as a building, teachers analyze data from MAP testing, Accelerated Math and Reading, STAR Reading and Math, DRA, and unit pre- and post-assessments to inform the creation of their SMART goals.

With a high level of collaboration during PLC team meetings, each staff member works to constantly better themselves and their teammates with the end goal being the success of all students. At Trojan Intermediate School, they pride themselves on having open doors and open minds, and egos are left at the door because through teamwork they ensure the success of all students.

Trojan Intermediate has set up a strong system of shared leadership.  Each grade level has a team leader with various members sharing roles that function within the team framework.  This allows for accountability for all members. Each grade level PLC team meets for at least 45 minutes every week and the whole building comes together once a week for 30-40 minutes.  Every meeting has appropriate protocols in place.  Agendas have norms and are based on the four corollary questions which focus on student achievement, data and best practice.  Minutes are sent out to the entire building so the information is distributed and a hard copy is kept in designated locations.

Team members are encouraged to visit other teams to monitor progress of the PLC process.  The leadership team takes information back to each team to support teacher growth and teams make collaborative decisions based on data, student need, teacher request, or best practice.
